Minnows and Stick Races

Around here we feel like our hot season is so short lived that we have to take in every second of it.  There is no sitting inside to take a breather in the summer, we all feel anxious to embrace it because we know that it won't last long.  When the kids need a break from the canal and Hagen needs a friend to play with, the little ditches keep them occupied.

They have spent a lot of time catching water skippers and racing sticks in the ditch.  It is the perfect place for Hagen to play too.  Sometimes we go to the big canal and catch netfuls of minnows to admire for the afternoon, that is a big hit as well.

The boys have contests who can jump the farthest over the ditch and since Hagen cant jump it he just runs across and then jumps out, afterwards ooohing over how far he "bumped'.

It is always an adventure around here that is for sure.  Truthfully, I am exhausted! This mama is usually in bed by 9:00 and the summer fun just doesn't allow for me to go to bed before 11.  The morninings here are gorgeous with the perfect temperature and chirping birds it's hard to stay in bed too long either.  Like I said earlier, we will power through another six weeks because that is really all the weather will stay around anyway.  We can sleep in the winter time!

Kallie is such a poser all the time, Cole doesn't want his picture with her because he says she is always doing weird stuff.  I loved his kiss face in mockery of her.  (Shall we point out the perfectly manicured baseball field of the neighbors now? Wow!)
